Hello!
We hope you will be able to join us for another adventure in Catalina. This year, we have a full line up. You will want to consider taking the first boat out in the morning or staying over the night before to attend all the events we have planned for you.
Please remember to bring sunscreen and very comfortable shoes. This year you will be walking more than 3 miles during the day to attend every class session. We will be serving Box lunches to accommodate all the additional class times we have added.
Nature:
Lewis Kemper, a Canon Explorer of Light, starts the first shooting class at 6:15 am with his Sunrise over the Harbor session. This will be followed by Kemper’s classroom at 8 am. Kemper’s second classroom will start at 5 pm and be followed by his Sunset over the Harbor shooting session. (If you plan to take this last session, book your return home
Architectural:
Norman McGrath, a Canon Explorer of Light is teaching an Interior Architectural Photography Class in Avalon’s City Hall each morning. This class will deal with mixed indoor lighting and other techniques. His Exterior Architectural Class, in the afternoon will be at the bottom level on the outside of Catalina’s most famous landmark, the Casino Building. Here McGrath will capture the Art Deco Design of the Theater entrance using a Canon tilt shift lens
Food:
Paul Kennedy will be highlighting some of the local cuisine in Avalon at the City Center Stage. Kennedy’s first subjects in the morning will be Cocktails and Appetizers. His afternoon sessions will feature a main course and dessert. This is a great way to improve your Still Life Photography techniques.
HD Video:
Robert Primes, A.S.C. will be teaching our new HD Video class. Primes will introduce you to the use of sound and movement in your movies. In each session, a 2 minute movie will be produced. Space is limited to this workshop, due to the size of the room. Please check in early to reserve your space.
Pin-up Portraits:
Riley Kern takes you on a historical tour of Pin- Up Photography. Kern will cover the history and shooting style of Pin – up portraits. There will be two shooting bays set up for students to learning about the different poses and lighting required to produce that vintage look. Each session will feature Models representing two of the four seasons, to allow you to create a quarterly Pin –up Calendar.
Canon Tech Courses:
Lance Folden will be Center Stage covering the newest Canon Digital SLR, the Rebel T1i.
Genaro Arroyo will be teaching in the Metropole Classroom, an advanced class on the EOS 5D Mark II.
Timothy Smith from Canon’s Pro Market Video Department will also present two sessions on HD Video for Commercial Production for advanced photographers.
In addition, we will also have instructors from manufacturers in the Motion Picture Industry on hand to present one hour classes, during both the Morning and Afternoon sessions to support the new HD Video capabilities of Canon’s Digital SLRs.
Canon would like to thank Catalina Meeting Specialists, Maggie Maki, Straight Up Builders and the citizens of Avalon for welcoming us again this year. This program could never be possible without the support of the Independent Camera Retailers. I would like to thank the store owners and their staff for volunteering at this event.
Have a great summer! I will see you on your next Catalina Adventure.
Sincerely,
Stacey Foster
